Health shares recommendations for preventing respiratory infections

GUATEMALA CITY, October 19 (AGN).- Given the start of the cold season of 2023, Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) Common recommendations for preventing respiratory infections.

Through the Acute Respiratory Infections Program of the Human Welfare Programs Systems Directorate, measures to avoid this type of disease were announced.

According to authorities, the most common illnesses during this time are colds, influenza or influenza, tonsillitis, laryngitis, acute otitis media, and pneumonia.

MSPAS notes that, depending on the severity of respiratory infections, it is important to visit different health centres. These infections can vary and start with a minor inconvenience, leading to serious, life-threatening complications.

Recommendations

The Ministry of Health presented a series of recommendations to confront the cold season and respiratory diseases:

  • Avoid leaving the house if it is very cold
  • Stay warm
  • Prioritize care for children under 5 years of age and adults over 60 years of age
  • Protect the skin with moisturizer
  • Keep lips lubricated and moisturized
  • Protect yourself from the dawning night
  • During the day, ventilate the house by opening windows and curtains to let in sunlight.
  • Do not expose yourself to sudden temperature changes, especially from hot to cold
  • Breathe through your nose (not your mouth) so that the warm air reaches your lungs
  • In the evening, use curtains or cardboard on the windows so that heat does not escape
