Honduras’ state energy company Eni has launched a tender to supply advanced metering infrastructure.
The call for 50,000 smart meters and associated equipment is part of the government’s National Loss Reduction Program (PNRP), which had to be accelerated to address the crisis in the sector.
Participants must prove that they have installed more than 40,000 meters of this type and have sold more than 500,000 units in other countries.
Offers must be submitted by August 9, subject to available public procurement information here And in the Documents section in the upper right corner of the screen.
Authorities suggest that PNRP has helped limit losses, although local research organization ASJ disputes the figures and says they have increased since the program began in November, and by 2022 amounted to 17.8 billion lempiras (US$721 million).
The PNRP aims to reduce losses to 28% this year and 18% by 2026.
In December, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed US$250 million to boost the electricity sector in Honduras, including allocations to reduce losses.
