How did Yoko Ono date John Lennon and why this fact has advanced the new age of artificial intelligence
The disruption of generative AI will usher in a new era in which concept creation becomes central. Idea generation will be stimulated because AI systems will be able to make it possible.
Art defines an aesthetic, and from that aesthetic a series of outcomes define an era and how society views the world. The founder of semiotics, Charles Peirce, spoke of a change in the basic process of logic.
Contrary to what is usually imagined, for Peirce, who was also a great logician and mathematician, these are not the sciences that dominate the way society thinks. Then Peirce, following Kant’s ideas, transforms the equation. It is aesthetics that dominates morality and ethics, in turn, logic. In synthetic interpretation, what is bad (the moral order) cannot be true (the logical order), and what is beautiful (the aesthetic order) cannot be bad (again, the moral order).
Aesthetics, then, gives rise to a large social field. If something is as beautiful as the sun then it is good, and if it is good then it is real. Of the axes of power, this was always well understood, and kings (who were representatives of the sun, the most primitive of all our gods) were always They surrounded themselves with artists whose job it was to create a narrative and an aesthetic to illustrate how one should think. Aesthetics is the latest subject in philosophy after many years of study. Understanding the depth of aesthetics requires several previous steps in the art of thinking.
Artists have the sensitivity to capture social changes and to anticipate new social eras to come. Painting, with its great disruptive moments, such as with Van Gogh and Picasso, advanced from art a large part of the change in perspective that was about to take place.. The twentieth century was the most prolific in history, foreseeing the great changes that would take place everywhere.
Among the many movements of the 1960s emerged conceptual art. And Yoko Ono, one of its founders, is to this day one of its most ardent supporters. If we do the time-travel exercise and come across an unknown Yoko Ono with the very famous John Lennon, what are the odds that Yoko Ono will “wake up” to Lennon?
If the situation is analyzed coldly, zero, one might say, anything close to impossible. Basically it was in the era of making the cult of female beauty. In addition, she was the character who could meet women all over the world, wanted and admired, and then it wouldn’t exactly be Yoko Ono who would be at the front of the line. And it will not be in second place. If you’re being honest, you’d say you wouldn’t be in line! There will be a lot of candidates before. smarter. more beautiful. Most famous. and richer. Well, it always happens in some way, but here we assure you that there will be many, and in that sense it will be easier to find a needle in a haystack.
Of course Lennon was different. He thought differently. He was also an artist. Learner of time. Picasso criticized artists who said they were searching. I thought they got lost that way. Picasso said: “I do not seek, I find.” And for this the important thing is to be sensitive, to be excited enough to perceive natureas the great Argentine visual artist Perez Siles once explained to me.
It was during this investigation at the time that Yoko Ono stumbled upon the concept. In an age when technology is beginning to adapt art, as support itself limits what can be said, I’ve moved towards something more primitive but more powerful. Artists have climbed the technological mountain. The Beatles and their electric guitars at that time were proof that to get to the pinnacle of art, you need to follow the technological path. Without the tools of technology, art had little to say or worth listening to.
Technical ingenuity has been added to the technological component. If not so much technology, the artist’s ingenuity, be it his quality of drawing or his manner of playing the piano, was the other way to elicit looks. Thus, the general public was excluded from art. There was no room for the unique, unrepeatable view each person could have of the world.
However, technology has also put amphetamines into wars. The atomic bombs had already exploded. The hell of Vietnam opened the gates to mass destruction. It was at that point that the conceptual art that Yoko Ono forcibly sculpted was born. For her, the important thing was the idea, then anyone could draw or touch it better. The root of everything, what makes us unique must lie outside of ingenuity or technology.
And so on November 7, 1966, in London, one day before the opening of his exhibition Unfinished Paintings (Unfinished Paintings), John Lennon entered the gallery to see what the audience could see the next day. The works were of course purely conceptual, there was no importance in technical or technological ingenuity, the important thing in every work was the concept it conveyed.
And so the inquisitive John Lennon saw a two-legged ladder, climbed it, and a magnifying glass from a string hung in the ceiling. There were also some small letters on the ceiling that could only be seen with a magnifying glass. Lennon did that and was able to read: Yes. Lennon was affected by this. He would have liked nothing, he later stated, to say “no” or “you’re stupid”. But after the effort of climbing the ladder one reached YES is the concept that Lennon was told completed what he was feeling.
There were other works. And between them is a hammer with a spiral. Lennon wanted to use the hammer to destroy the snail, but Ono didn’t want to mess with something that would ruin the show that started the next day. The business secretary explained that Lennon was a famous and rich person who probably paid him a lot of money for the work. Then Lennon asked Yoko Ono to give him an imaginary 5 shillings if he would allow him to destroy the snail. And it was it. There they exchanged real looks, the concept leading them to fantasize and dream together. “Ah, you saw that we connected. She saw that too. Our eyes felt it. And that’s how we started,” Lennon recalled.
Yoko Ono was able to connect with Lennon in a way he had never been before. The end of the Beatles was also evident because the imaginative concepts and concepts that Lennon would climb left behind his stage as teenage friends with whom they changed the history of music. Now, there were other things that needed to change.
“It was over,” “Imagine” would be some of his new features along with a deep introspection as in “Mother” where he shouts out what the notes can’t say. “When Yoko appears, her main attraction is her vision of things. She taught him a different way of being, which he found very appealing. So it’s time for John to go.Paul McCartney recalled ten years ago.
Yoko Ono’s achievement, as an artist, goes far beyond Lennon’s.I discovered the importance of concept, personality above all technical prowess. In this way, it was nearly 60 years before the new era that began with the advent of generative artificial intelligence.. A new era is being born where concept ownership becomes the most relevant thing. If an idea is good enough, it will prevail regardless of whether we don’t know how to draw, write, or even play music. In jobs, we can do impossible things just by having a good idea.
If one explains our idea well through the various “prompts” or command lines of generative AI, it will give us the flexibility we lack. For example, it would be very nice to illustrate this article with the thought of Yoko Ono next to the flying John Lennon, trapped by the thought of Yoko, and coincidentally adding the ladder from the art presentation that brought them together. But making this kind of drawing is beyond the limited skills of the person writing this article.
On the other hand, with generative AI, you only need to have a very clear concept and know how to tell it.. Thus this image which did not exist and which no one was able to create finally seems to illustrate the article in question. With generative artificial intelligence we have the possibility of making a leap in quality.
Everyone has generative artificial intelligence at their fingertips using their smartphone. We are entering an age when conceptual and critical thinking is more important than technical prowess. Having something important to say that is relevant democratizes idea generation. The era of the “immediate” is approaching which, in its milder version, will allow us to devote more time to innovation.
Of course it doesn’t have to be just big ideas, it can be very small everyday issues that can now be solved at a higher level of quality thanks to the help of AI. But if you’re motivated enough to go the concept route, maybe something magical will happen. Maybe your John Lennon will show up. imagine that.
