After the hurricane passes FloridaRescue teams continue to pull people from the barrier island.
Hurricane Ian caused a streak of devastation as it passed Florida, stranding people in flooded homes, cutting the only bridge to a barrier island, destroying a historic pier and leaving more than 2.5 million people without power Thursday.
Part of this bridge to Senilla Island collapsed completely, which is why a lot of people were trapped.
Another impassable route is the one to Pine Island, another residential barrier island off the coast of Fort Myers, “about 100 engineers were sent to inspect the bridges.” This is what Governor Ron DeSantis said during the hearing informative Thursday morning.
caused damage
But this isn’t the only damage Hurricane Ian has caused. In Fort Myers Beach, videos and photos have been uploaded to social media showing the devastation in downtown Times Square, where tourists eat fish, drink rum and buy. Ice cream.
And according to what was posted on the El Nuevo Herald’s online portal, Lee County Administrator Roger Degarlais predicted on Wednesday night that there would be deaths.
“I’m sad to tell you that while we don’t know the full extent of the damage to Lee County at this time, we’re starting to feel like our community has been decimated, in some ways,” Dejarlais said, according to the caption.
However, Governor Ron DeSantis is adamant not to get caught up in rumors of mass deaths, because rescuers are still responding to previous 911 calls.
“There are many people who have been airlifted to safety,” DeSantis told a news briefing Thursday morning.
