Santo Domingo, April 29. – The Eleventh Ibero-American Conference of Agriculture Ministers called today in its final declaration to achieve comprehensive and sustainable food security in the region.
The participants in the declaration agreed to move towards a model that solves the prevailing needs of the 60 million food insecure people in the region, is committed to innovation and technology, and reduces the environmental impact of the sector.
Similarly, participants called for restructuring, which promotes a series of joint actions around a common roadmap to advance the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
Another aspect that was reflected in the document was the decision to work on increasing production capacity and diversity, access to productive assets, and technological developments including digitization and education as a basis for overcoming exclusion.
and systemic transformation that addresses global challenges such as climate change, social inequality and gender gaps, and dramatically increase investment in science, technology and innovation.
In addition, establish results-oriented cooperation agreements between the two Ministries of Ibero-American Agriculture, support food and nutrition education programs and promote family farming, among other points.
Finally, representatives of the 22 countries present approved a resolution in support of food security and sustainable development in Haiti, urging the international community and other political actors to work towards resolving the grave humanitarian situation in that country.
The secret meeting was part of the schedule of activities carried out by the Dominican Republic within the framework of the temporary General Secretariat of this international organization, the results of which will be presented at the 28th Summit of Ibero-American Heads of State and Government, which will be held in this country under the slogan “Together for a just and sustainable Iberian America”.
