This was stated to Prensa Latina by members of the organization who participate this weekend in the traditional hugging festival, called by the Communist Party, in Parque O'Higgins in the capital.
“Historically, we have been present at the main national cultural and political event organized by the party,” said Carlos Lagos, head of the Cuba Solidarity Coordinator.
He explained that every year many of the island's friends visit the platform, realizing the need to support a country that stands in solidarity with all the peoples of the world, especially with the Chilean people.
Lagos recalled the friendship that existed between the historical leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, and President Salvador Allende, which – as he put it – transcends and also becomes part of those in this party.
He stated that this year the 28th National Meeting of Solidarity with Cuba will be held, which will be held in the city of Valdivia and in which delegates from all over the country will participate, from Arica to Punta Arenas.
Pedro Bronzic, a member of the curator, pointed to the origin of the hugging festival in the 1980s, even in the time of dictatorship, when many gathered secretly to know that they were alive.
He added: “Here we gather communist activists and friends from the left and progressives to wish each other success and continue working for solidarity.”
He added: “We are fighting to end the criminal blockade of Cuba and the genocide in Gaza. This is our mission and we will be there.”
Solidarity with Cuba and Palestine is present in the many stands spread throughout the park.
Cuban-supporting groups such as December 2, Internationalists and Siboney, among others, also participate in the Hug Festival.
