Los Angeles County health authorities on Wednesday urged vulnerable individuals to exercise extreme caution due to increased transmission of the coronavirus.
According to the Department of Public Health, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems, and those with chronic diseases continue to experience higher rates of hospitalizations and deaths from COVID-19.
In the 30-day period ending Aug. 5, it showed that people ages 80 and older were five times more likely to be hospitalized for COVID-19 than people ages 50 to 79, according to data released by health officials.
To reduce the risk of infection, the authorities recommend the use of a high-filtration mask, especially if they use public transport, or visit crowded and poorly ventilated indoor spaces, including healthcare centres. They added the importance of identifying symptoms early and consulting with your medical provider.
With the onset of autumn, they also urged residents to consult their doctors about vaccinations to protect themselves from COVID-19, influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
