Gaza, August 26 – Several Palestinians were killed or injured today in a new Israeli bombardment that targeted a school housing refugees, located in the central Gaza Strip.
The official WAFA news agency reported that warplanes attacked an educational facility in the Nuseirat refugee camp, although the exact number of casualties is currently unknown.
According to the source, among the dead in the raid were minors and women. In addition, artillery shelled the nearby Al-Bureij refugee camp.
Recently, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) reported that more than half of the schools housing displaced people in Gaza have been attacked by Israel in the past ten months, according to PL. The organization reiterated its call for a ceasefire in the coastal enclave to alleviate the situation of the more than two million Palestinians living there.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini also called for the protection of civilians in Gaza and condemned attacks on schools, hospitals and homes.
The official wrote on the social network X: Civilians, women, children, detainees, schools, hospitals, homes and humanitarian workers must be protected.
He pointed out that 75 years ago, the Geneva Conventions were issued to protect civilians in times of war. Lazzarini stressed that they are universal rules aimed at limiting the devastating impact of conflicts on humanity.
