TOKYO, DECEMBER 13 (JIJI PRESS) – The new animated film by Japanese director Miyazaki Hayao, Kimitachi wa Do Ikiru ka (How do you live?), will be released on July 14 next year. The date was announced Tuesday by the film’s distributor, Toho.
The film is an original story by Miyazaki, 81, based on the book of the same title by Yoshino Genzaburo. It’s the first time in ten years that the acclaimed animation director has released a movie.
Miyazaki’s previous movie, Casey Tacino The Wind Rises was released in 2013 and was nominated at the Venice International Film Festival and at the Academy Awards in the United States.
Miyazaki announced that he would stop making animated films after the release of Anime Casey Tacinobut declined in 2017.
“I have the impression it will be a work of fiction for young people,” said Ishikawa Minami, Toho’s senior executive director, at a press conference on Tuesday.
