May is over, but it’s time to get to know the league’s standout players from that month.

Aaron Judge, New York, MLS Player of the Month
After winning the award three times in 2022, when he was Young Circuit MVP, Judge won his first award of 2023 and the sixth of his career. The slugger missed the first eight days of the month on the disabled list, but returned to hit . 342 with 12 home runs, 25 RBIs, 20 walks, and a 1.356 OPS in 21 games in May.
Freddie Freeman, National League Player of the Month
For the fourth time in his career and second as a member of the Dodgers, Freeman was named NL Player of the Month. May’s first baseman finished with a 20-game winning streak. For the month, he hit . 400 with six homers, 17 doubles, 26 RBIs, 12 walks and a 1.184 OPS in 28 games.
Nathan Ivaldi, TX, Pitcher of the Month
Eovaldi’s shutout in his last start of April was a harbinger of things to come, as the right-hander went 4-0 with a 0.96 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 37.2 3 innings pitched in five May starts. For the right fielder, it’s his first Pitcher of the Month award.
Michael Wacha, SD, National League Pitcher of the Month
Wacha struggled in April (6.75 ERA), but got back on track in May, going 3-0 with a 0.84 ERA and striking out 26 in 32.0 innings over five starts, to be named Pitcher of the Month for the first time. The Padres right-hander has allowed three extra-base hits all month, holding up opponents to .405 OPS.
Josh Jung, TX, American League Rookie of the Month
Jung kicked off the month of June by honoring back-to-back MLS winners for the month. The third baseman hit in each of his last games on May 14, with four homers, five doubles, 12 RBIs and 1.284 OPS. Jung homered six times in May and hit . 318/. 357/. 561 in 26 games.
Spencer Steer, CIN, National League Freshman Player of the Month
Steer had 25 hits in 64 at-bats (. 291 average) in his last 15 games in May and finished the month with six more hits, 19 RBI and a 0.945 OPS in 27 games to earn the Rookie of the Month title. National.
Alex Lange, DET, AL Reliever of the Month
Lang is the second Tigers pitcher to be recognized as reliever of the month, joining Shane Green. Lange struck out 17 of the 41 batters he faced and allowed only one run in 10.2 innings (0.84 ERA) in May. He had seven saves in as many chances.
Camilo Duvall, San Francisco, National League Savior of the Month
Duvall was named National League Rescuer of the Month three times in his career. The Dominican had 11 saves in most chances in May, a month in which he had a 1.32 earned run rate and 23 strikeouts in 13.2 innings pitched.
