The US Senate has advanced the approval process for Justice Kitangi Brown-Jackson before the Supreme Court. Three Republicans sided with the 50-member Democratic Congressional bloc in a procedural vote Monday night, meaning the final vote on Jackson’s confirmation will come later this week. It came despite 11 Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee voting Monday against moving forward with Jackson’s confirmation. In response, Democratic Senator Cory Booker addressed his fellow Republicans.
Senator Cory Booker: “How qualified should you be? [Jackson] He received two degrees from Harvard University. How qualified should you be? Worked at all levels of the federal judicial system. How many qualifications do you have? He’s had bipartisan confirmation from the Senate three times.”
Republican Senators Romney, Murkowski and Collins joined their fellow Democrats in supporting Justice Kitangi Brown-Jackson’s assertion.
