Mexico City. Marco Verde's path to Paris 2024 looks promising, after he defeated boxer Roniel Iglesias, the Olympic champion in London 2012 and Tokyo 2020.
The Mexican, who qualified for the Olympics last year, faced his Cuban opponent in a completely different way than the Olympic method. The fight was agreed upon in a professional manner and lasted for eight rounds.
Despite the change, Verde knocked out his opponent in five rounds in a function organized by the IBA (International Boxing Association) within the framework of the San Marcos Expo in Aguascalientes.
One day after his crushing victory in the 71-kilogram category, the King of the Central American and Pan-American Games expressed his impressions.
“He was a very strong competitor, with a lot of teeth, and he will serve me well in future competitions. Beating a double Olympic champion will give me a lot of confidence,” said the 21-year-old boxer.
Regarding the form, he commented:
“Professional competitions are very different from amateur competitions, but despite that, the confidence of knowing that I can, and that I am at the level of the greats, gives me a lot of satisfaction and self-confidence.” Mazatlán said.
Marco Verde will emulate in the footsteps of his father Manuel, who in Barcelona in 1992 was part of the Mexican boxing delegation that competed in the Olympic event.
