The Peruvian football team started training in Barcelona (Spain) on Monday, thinking of a friendly match against New Zealand on June 5 as part of preparations for the Qatar 2022 World Cup playoffs.

According to the Peruvian Football Confederation (FPF), players trained at the San Kugat High Performance Sports Center this morning, where they will conduct red and white rehearsals while staying in Spain under the technical command of Argentina Ricardo Carreca.

The Peruvian team left Lima for the Catalan capital last Saturday to play their last friendly match before the playoffs on June 13 against the winner of the clash between Australia and the United Arab Emirates.

From the Peruvian capital, 17 players flew in a charter plane, enlisted in Barcelona by Edison Flores, Alexander Callens, Renato Tobia and Wilder Cartagena, thus 21 were selected.

The team will continue training throughout this week, ahead of the international clash against New Zealand next Sunday at 5:30 pm in Spain (GMT 3:30 pm) at the Espanyol Stadium.

Peru faces New Zealand in the playoffs for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The Red and White teams qualified for the World Cup 36 years later with a 0-0 draw and a 2-0 victory in Lima.

The team, which remains in Spain until June 10, will travel to Doha for a crucial match that will determine whether Peru will continue to play in the Second World Cup.

In the Andean nation, with goals from Andre Guerrero and Pavlo Guerrero, Australia are presented as a potential contender for the team that has already beaten the Peruvians 2-0 in the group stage of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Peru qualified for the World Cup playoffs for the second time in a row, after finishing fifth in the South American qualifying rounds, after Ecuador, Uruguay, Argentina and Brazil, who qualified directly for Qatar.
