Authorities say that parts of Jabalia are in ruins after the Israeli withdrawal
Images taken in the central and western areas of Jabalia refugee camp in Gaza after the departure of Israeli soldiers show widespread destruction, while authorities in northern Gaza warn residents against returning.
The streets in the area became covered in rubble, most of the buildings collapsed or were destroyed, and the UNRWA headquarters and school, which were being used as shelters for displaced people from Gaza, were burned.
People who tried to enter the area were seen being beaten and injured by drones.
The authorities in northern Gaza urged residents not to return to their homes and shelters following “reports of the withdrawal of the occupation forces from Jabalia camp” on Thursday morning.
The Northern Governorate Emergency Committee issued a statement on Thursday morning urging “citizens to be patient and not to return,” as there were still “some dangerous remnants” of Israeli forces.
The director of civil defense operations in northern Gaza, Mahdi Abu Amsha, told CNN that he saw “massive destruction” and “bodies were found on the roads and under buildings,” describing the scenes as an “act of revenge.”
He added, “The bombing continues in these areas.”
Local journalist Al-Sabah also reported that the Israeli army withdrew from the center and west of Jabalia camp, but remained in the northern and eastern regions.
The Israeli military told CNN that it “cannot provide information about the location of our forces.” In a statement issued Thursday morning, the Israeli army said that “its forces continue to operate against infrastructure and terrorist operations in the Jabalia area, north of Gaza.”
