Men’s rugby team Los Pumas scored a thrilling 38-30 win over New Zealand’s All Blacks in the opening match of the 2024 Rugby Championship. Los Pumas managed to start the match against the “Men in Black” on the right foot, losing 20-8 36 minutes into the first half.
Argentina had a tough start in which they conceded six penalties in 11 minutes. Damian McKenzie and Sam Darry gave New Zealand a 10-0 lead.
The Pumas responded first with a try from Lucio Cindy and then with a penalty from Santiago Carreras. But the All Blacks went into the break with a 20-15 lead, this time thanks to a new arrival in Argentina’s goal through Anton Linnerd-Brown and another penalty from McKenzie. For Las Pumas, for their part, Mateo Carreras backed up with a brilliant run and Carreras made the conversion.
The second half is rod to rod. In the 66th minute, captain Agustin Greavy scored Las Pumas’ fourth try to make it 35-30.
Finally, a new penalty headed by the historic Felipe Cantebomi ended the match to put us eight points ahead.
This is the third win in Las Pumas history against New Zealand. The first took place in Sydney in 2020 and the last in 2022 in Christchurch.
Las Pumas’ next presentation is against New Zealand on Saturday 17th at 4am.
