The demonstrations echoed criticism of President Emmanuel Macron for “ignoring” the demands of unions and the majority of French people and for refusing to extend the retirement age.
More than a million people took to the streets on Saturday, according to the CGT, 300,000 in Paris, figures far from the 3,500,000 estimated by the organization on March 7.
For its part, the Ministry of the Interior estimated 368 thousand participants, 48 thousand in the capital.
Intersindical has already called a new protest on March 15, ahead of the executive branch’s decision to keep its bill, which will finish research this weekend in the Senate.
