Los Angeles (AFP) – Thanks to an impressive comeback, Japanese golfer Hideki Matsuyama won, on Sunday, the Genesis Invitational PGA Championship, organized annually by Tiger Woods in Los Angeles (California).

Matsuyama, the 2021 Augusta Masters champion, produced a performance worthy of his illustrious host with a stunning card of 62, nine of them under par, at Riviera Country Club.
The Japanese started the fourth and final round with a six-stroke disadvantage over then-leader Patrick Cantlay and ended up lifting the cup by three strokes in front of Americans Will Zalatoris and Luke List.
Matsuyama, 31, entered the fray for victory by starting the round with three straight birdies, out of the nine he made in the entire round, and kept pushing until he was just one stroke away from the course record.
Due to neck and back problems in recent years, Matsuyama has not won a PGA Cup since the 2022 Sony Open and now has nine titles on his record.
The only disappointment for the Japanese on the day was that they were unable to snatch the trophy from Tiger Woods, who left the competition during the second round on Friday due to the flu.
