Mayo Clinic invests in Mayo Clinic Health System and Florida facilities to expand and improve patient care

Projects for Mayo Clinic Health System facilities will help us achieve our strategy to transform community health care. The projects at La Crosse and Mankato will integrate telehealth, digital health and artificial intelligence technologies, which will be added to design elements and practical applications to support innovative healthcare models and improve patient and staff experience.

In Jacksonville, the expansion will transform the hospital’s infrastructure by providing much-needed space to handle the growing number of patients seeking Mayo Clinic care.

The La Crosse and Mankato projects represent a $353 million investment in the future of the Mayo Clinic Health System. Construction at both sites is expected to begin this spring and be completed in 2024.

Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse

The La Crosse project will replace the existing building with a new six-story, 70-bed hospital that will be connected to the Cancer and Surgery Building.

The new facilities will include:

  • A floor for surgeries and procedures, located next to the existing operating rooms and integrated with them and will include rooms before and after the intervention.
  • Endoscopy rooms.
  • Cardiac catheterization and interventional radiology.
  • Medical and surgical units.
  • Flexible intensive care unit (ICU) and progressive care.
  • New maternity center.
  • Space without interior finishes for future expansions.

Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato

The Mankato project is considering expansion to 121 beds spread over three floors that will be added above the emergency department, a cancer center and a specialized clinic hall. The hospital floors within the new tower will connect to the existing hospital and will include:

  • The new and larger Intensive Care and Progressive Care Unit.
  • A new medical and surgical unit.
  • New maternity center.

Mayo Clinic in Florida

The Florida expansion includes building five new floors on top of the existing hospital tower to accommodate 121 new inpatient beds, including 56 ICU beds, as well as raw indoor space for future expansion. Construction of the hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, is expected to begin later this year and be completed by the end of 2026. The expansion joins other transformational projects underway at the Mayo Clinic in Florida, such as building the first carbon ion facilities in North America. Mayo Clinic Hospital opened in April 2008 with six floors and 214 beds; Then in 2012, it was expanded by adding two floors and an additional 90 beds. After the new construction is completed, the hospital will have an area of ​​1.4 million square feet (130,064 square meterstwo) and 13 floors and 428 beds for patients. The $432 million expansion will meet growing patient demand.

Today’s announcements build on Mayo Clinic’s investments in Rochester, Minnesota, and Mayo Clinic in Arizona announced last year:
