McDonald’s suspends artificial intelligence that does drive-thru ordering

Must Read

NEW YORK (EFE).- McDonald’s has temporarily suspended its pilot initiative that uses artificial intelligence (AI) in some of its US restaurants to automatically receive its customers’ orders from the drive-thru (“drive-thru”, in English), US media reported on Monday.

The fast food giant, which had been working on this test using IBM technology since 2021, canceled this AI application after reaping “contradictory results,” a company spokesperson told CNBC.

The company is “not ready” at this time to roll out voice ordering at all of its restaurants, according to this representative.

“The goal of the trial was to determine whether an automated voice ordering solution could streamline operations for employees and create a faster, improved experience for our customers,” the spokesperson added, adding that there was still “opportunity to explore voice ordering solutions.” “

McDonald’s flaws in artificial intelligence

McDonald’s, which owns 27,000 self-service restaurants around the world, has applied this artificial intelligence technology in 100 establishments in the United States.

In addition, some customers have already reported on their social networks that McDonald’s chatbot sometimes makes mistakes on even simple orders.

Other fast food chains, such as Chipotle, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut, are also experimenting with AI tools in their kitchens and cash registers to save on labor costs.
