“After a day of anxious waiting, all our citizens in Sudan who asked to leave have been evacuated, there are also foreigners with them, and Italy has left no one behind,” Meloni said in the statement.
“I would like to thank everyone who participated in this very difficult operation, in the middle of a combat zone,” he added, acknowledging in particular the intervention of Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani and Defense Minister Guido Croceto, among other senior and civilian personnel. military officials.

Pope Francis also made a new appeal last Sunday to end the armed conflict in that country, which began on April 15 between the army and the so-called Rapid Support Forces, which has already killed more than 400 people.
“Unfortunately, the situation in Sudan remains dangerous, so I renew my appeal to stop the violence as soon as possible and to resume the course of dialogue,” said the Supreme Pontiff.
