Los Angeles Angels quarterback Mike Trott underwent surgery on his fractured left wrist on Wednesday, two days after he was injured by a foul ball.

“I spoke with Mike, he just got out of surgery. He feels great,” head coach Phil Nevin said before the final game against the San Diego Padres. “The surgery went well. We spoke to the doctor a minute ago, but everything seems to have gone well.”

Also Wednesday, superstar Shuhei Otani was added to the lineup as the designated hitter a day after he left the game in the sixth inning with a blister on the middle finger of his hand. Otani later said he won’t be in next week’s All-Star game, and it remains to be seen if he’ll be one of the MLS’ designated hitters.

There is no date yet for Trout to return, although it regularly takes weeks to recover from this surgery.

“It is not yet clear how the trout’s hand will respond as it begins treatment and rehabilitation,” Nevin added. “I know you’re looking forward to it.”

The hitter misses a throwing pitch on the score at 0-1 by Nick Martinez leading off the eighth inning, immediately hitting his left arm.

Trout, a three-time AL MVP, was named to Sunday’s 11th All-Star Game — with the 10th consecutive selection as a starter. 263 batting average with 18 home runs and 44 RBI this season.
