Rio de Janeiro, November 13 (EFE). – 80’s Brazilian singer-songwriter Milton Nascimento, the composer of world-renowned songs like María, said goodbye on stage Sunday with a massive concert in Belo Horizonte that he dedicated to his friend, artist Gal Costa, who passed away this week.

Along with Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso and Chico Buarque, the artist and winner of several Grammy Awards is one of the most recognized representatives of Brazilian popular music (MPB).

After his latest tour, which he took this year through several cities in Brazil, the singer-songwriter bid farewell to his presentations with concert this Sunday in the mining capital, the city he holds in his heart, despite his birth in Rio de Janeiro. .

“I consider myself the most cariocas miner,” the artist said in the video that opened the show.

More than 55 thousand fans accompanied him to his farewell at the Mineirao stadium in Belo Horizonte, where the musician did not hide the pain he still suffers due to the unexpected departure of his friend and fellow musician Gal Costa, who died last Wednesday in Sao Paulo.

“This show is dedicated to my dear Gal Costa,” the 80-year-old singer-songwriter said in his first public address after performing “Ponta de Aria”.

“A Última Sessão de Música” (Last Concert Session), as he called his farewell tour, is the same as the name of one of the songs on the album “Milagro dos Peixes” (Miracle of the Fish, 1973).

The artist who was shot to fame at the age of 19 by artist Ellis Regina – who was also praised at the party – recorded his debut album “Travesía” at the age of 25 and during his career, in addition to MPB, he ventured into other rhythms such as music Pop, rock and Brazilian and international musical fusion.

In recent years, he has struggled with several health issues, and his motor skills have been shown to have completely diminished in his presentations before the Covid pandemic, with difficulties walking in boxes.

As for his voice, he remained the same despite the passage of years and the fragility of his health.

The singer, songwriter and guitarist, who this year also completed 60 years of musical career, has recorded 34 albums and performed with dozens of groups and musicians from other countries, such as Wayne Schurter, Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, Mercedes Sosa and Vito. Baez, Peter Gabriel, James Taylor, Sting, Paul Simon, Chico Burke, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil and Doran Duran.
