From January to August 2024, out of 2,659 probable cases, only 987 were confirmed.

The Mexican entity remained in 22nd place nationally in terms of new cases.

With 987 confirmed cases of dengue fever in the State of Mexico, the entity’s Health Secretariat continues prevention and promotion measures against this disease in Mexican territory.

According to data from the Sub-Directorate of Epidemiology of the Health Institute of the State of Mexico (ISEM), at the end of the 31st Epidemiological Week and based on the Dengue Epidemiological Surveillance System, from January 1 to August 4 of this year, the health sector and institutions in the region reported 2,659 probable cases, of which 987 were confirmed.

According to the bulletin of the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health of the Government of Mexico, in the same epidemiological week 31, the Mexican entity remained in 22nd place at the national level in terms of new cases.

From week 30 to 31, a decrease in probable cases was reported, from 214 to 175. In this sense, training and orientation actions have been intensified, with more than 5,000 preventive activities carried out so far, such as workshops, spatial spraying, distribution of printed materials, and house-to-house visits to promote household hygiene and waste disposal, especially in the south of the state, which is an endemic area and has climatic conditions that are favorable for the growth of mosquitoes that transmit this disease.

ISEM has identified that, with the support of disease control teams, primary health care technicians (TAPS), health care providers, and local and municipal health committees, it is implementing permanent preventive measures in communities to reduce the spread of mosquito breeding sites and disease.

The agency notes that from January to July this year, a record 94,375 homes were treated for larval control; 12,528 vacant lots and 1,608 public places were put into operation; and 287,768 water tanks were controlled.

Regarding spatial fumigation, 8,117 hectares were fumigated in the Mexican entity, of which 2,623 hectares belong to the municipality of Tejupilco.

The agency explains that through the “wash, cover, rotate and throw” strategy, the importance of cleaning spaces, sinks, water tanks, cisterns, vases and any container that collects water in the community is reinforced; it is the ideal place for mosquitoes to breed.

Dengue fever is a viral disease and its main symptoms are fever, headache, muscle, joint and bone pain, pain behind the eyes, and in some severe cases, nausea, vomiting, swelling of the body, redness of the skin, conjunctivitis and bleeding of the gums or nose.

Therefore, the population is urged not to self-medicate; if a person shows any of these symptoms, he should immediately go to the nearest health center to receive medical care.
