Women in sports
The New Zealand Rugby Community has launched a 10-year strategy to promote and develop women’s rugby.
New Zealand Rugby president Dame Patsy has announced the launch of a strategy to promote women’s rugby in the Maritime nation. The action plan aims to allocate more than $21 million in funding to women’s rugby-related initiatives, including the creation of six new features dedicated to the game.
Among those activities are community, high performance and improving business environment. The 26 Provincial Unions will develop individual action plans tailored to local needs and with the support of NZR. Unions and rugby organizations across New Zealand will use the computer strategy to assess where they are heading towards women and girls and develop action plans in five key areas: culture, organisation, participation, performance and change.
“We’re experiencing an extraordinary wave of enthusiasm and commitment to women’s rugby in Aotearoa, the likes of which we’ve never seen before. Last year’s fantastic win for the Black Ferns shows what’s possible when we all come together to support our team. It’s this momentum that inspires us all to seize the moment and make a difference,” Dame said. Patsy said.
“We truly believe that rugby is a sport for all and we have a great opportunity to engage more women and girls over the next decade. It’s important that this is done in a deliberate, structured and focused way,” she said. Head of the organization.
