Osakidetza began the construction process of the new Lazkao Health Center by issuing a tender for project formulation and management. The future center, “more functional and adapted to current healthcare needs”, as explained by the Basque Government, responds to the need to expand the space due to the increase in the population residing in Lazcao and the neighboring municipalities – Lazcao, Atown and Ulabria make up a total population of 8,451 inhabitants – as well as implementing health services New.
The new building will contribute to the improvement, modernization and adaptation of Osakiditza centers and structures. The total investment for this project is estimated at approximately 3 million euros, and it is expected to begin work throughout the year 2025, and the implementation period will range between 18 and 24 months, so the completion date may vary from the end of 2026 to 2027.
With the construction of the future building, the healthcare space will triple, from 415 square meters spread over the current two floors to about 1,000 square meters divided into four floors, three above ground and one below ground.
This intervention will entail the demolition of the existing center and the construction of a new building on the same plot of land with more appropriate urban standards that will accommodate current needs.
During the construction period, the provision of health center services will be ensured nearby to ensure continuity of medical services for the residents of Lazcutara.
The future building will contain an administrative area, a family and pediatric medicine area, a women’s care area, a physical therapy space and an area for Osakiditza employees. It will include about 15 medical and nursing consultations, in addition to a treatment room, an ultrasound room, an extraction room, emergency rooms, a lactation room, a birth preparation room, and a physical therapy room.
