This was confirmed after yesterday’s statements from several former developers, but today Plaion officially announced the closure of Free Radical Design Studio.
In a statement sent to VGC“We regret to announce another difficult decision. Today, we must confirm the official closure of Free Radical Design, and say goodbye to many talented and hardworking people,” the Embracer Group company explained.
“We are very grateful for their wonderful contributions to Plaion and wish them the best of luck and success in their careers moving forward.”
Free Radical is the latest studio to be affected by Embracer Group’s aggressive restructuring plan, which was launched after the collapse of a $2 billion deal. Since then, the Swedish holding company has laid off nearly nine hundred employees at studios such as Crystal Dynamics (Tomb Raider), New World Interactive (Insurgency), Zen Studios (Pinball FX), or Beamdog (Mythforce).
Embracer has also completely shut down Volition studio (Saints Row and Red Faction) and Onoma studio (formerly Square Enix Montréal), while looking for a buyer for Gearbox (Borderlands).
