There were moments of terror inside a small plane flying over Norwood Airport in Massachusetts after a man with an apparent developmental disorder tried to jam the controls during a promotional flight, according to police.
Police were seen at Norwood Memorial Airport on Friday and authorities confirmed the incident was being investigated.
Later, in a press release, Norwood Police said its officers and the Norwood Fire Department “responded with an abundance of caution after a single-engine aircraft made an emergency landing at Norwood Memorial Airport on Friday morning.”
No one was injured, and the Cessna 172 was undamaged after it landed safely around 11:45 a.m. Investigators found no criminal intent, according to the Norwood Police Department. The pilot, an experienced flight instructor, was able to maintain control of the aircraft at all times.
An investigation found that a flight school, which operated at the airport, was offering a promotional flight to a woman and her 60-year-old brother. The brother, who was reported by police to have a developmental disorder, seized the flight at the wheel and tried to move it.
