BOGOTA, June 23 (Prensa Latina) Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated President-elect of Colombia Gustavo Petro on his electoral victory last Sunday, the Moscow Embassy in Bogota confirmed today.
“Accept my sincere congratulations on your election to the post of President of the Republic of Colombia,” the ruler of the Eurasian nation said in his message.
Putin stressed that Russian-Colombian relations are traditionally friendly.
“I hope that your work as head of state will contribute to the further development of mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation relations in various fields,” he said.
And the message published by the embassy on his Twitter account stated that the Russian President wished him success, health and wellness.
Last Sunday, Petro and France, the presidential version of the historic pact, won the second electoral round, a victory that for the first time in more than 200 years led the country’s presidency to alternative and leftist forces.
According to the National Registry data, the historic binomial charter got 11 million 281 thousand 13 votes in Sunday’s poll, with a percentage of 50.44 percent.
