Address 42 has been used nearly 1.7 million times by the government

WASHINGTON, April 1 (RHC) – The administration of US President Joe Biden on Friday repealed a policy that allows for expedited evictions of immigrants at the border and prevents them from applying for asylum, known as Title 42.
Lifting the order came after years of pressure from the Democratic Party and immigration advocates who view the rule as harsh and illegal for those fleeing persecution and danger.
Based on a favorable epidemiological landscape and epidemic control, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has determined that the rule is no longer necessary to protect US citizens.
Earlier this week, administration officials indicated that even with Section 42 lifted, most undocumented immigrants crossing the border would not be able to remain in the United States.
“To be clear, the majority of individuals who entered the country without legal clearance will be deported,” White House communications director Kate Bedingfield said Thursday.
Although it was set up by the Donald Trump administration (2017-2021) within days of the pandemic, Title 42 has been used nearly 1.7 million times by the Biden administration, a number that includes those who cross over again.
Washington has defended its use by saying it was a critical public health order necessary to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the country, however, experts say the implementation of Title 42 is politically motivated and xenophobic. (source:PL)
