Rain caused eight landslides in Costa Rica

On Sunday, the National Emergency Commission (CNE) reported that eight landslides occurred in Cartago (2) cantons (municipalities), and one, respectively, in Guatemala, Mora, Puntarenas, Quepos, Tellaran and San Jose.

The European National Council recorded two floods in the cantons of Oramuno, Bagaces and Upala and one in Golfito, Pérez Zeledón, San Rafael and Santa Ana.

Noting that so far he does not regret the loss of life, he clarifies that in the canton of Los Chiles, in the province of Alajuela, he maintains a refuge for 32 people.

For its part, the National Institute of Meteorology (IMN) revealed that humid and unstable weather conditions over the country and surrounding areas caused rain of variable intensity and torrential rain with electric storms on Sunday, a situation that will continue on Monday.

In a warning, IMN called for special attention in the northern region (Upala, Guatuso, San Carlos and Sarapiquí), the mountainous Caribbean (Guápiles), the southern Pacific and the Nicoya Peninsula because they maintain high values ​​of soil saturation.

In light of this, he recommended caution for residents due to sewage congestion and potential flooding in the Northern Caribbean, Northern and Southern Pacific.

Likewise, be aware of electrical storms and seek a safe haven if strong winds occur or are perceived, due to the potential for tree branches and power lines to fall, among other things.

He urged citizens to stay informed of the rainy weather at this time of the year.
