Report No. 15 issued by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN) today at 06:00 AM (local time) indicated that the storm will continue throughout the week despite the decrease in rainfall in the past hours.

The forecast takes into account the report of the US National Hurricane Center, which monitors, in addition to a possible tropical storm, two low pressure formations south of Florida and in the Gulf of Mexico itself, which will cause more moisture in the Central American countries.

MARN noted, “This system and conditions encourage the entry of heavy moisture from the Pacific Ocean into our lands, leading to the continuation of the storm with very heavy rains, varying between continuous and intermittent, with greater accumulations of rain expected in the coastal sector and the volcanic mountain range.” .

The authority indicated that rain on Tuesday is likely to remain moderate to strong, with winds that may reach speeds of up to 40 kilometers per hour.

Two systems under development can be added to the current conditions. The National Hurricane Center expects the formation of the first tropical cyclone with a probability of 80 percent during the next 48 hours, in the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, and in the same place a cloudy area and heavy rain associated with the depression.

Likewise, an upper area of low pressure was observed which is expected to form in the next 48 hours.

As part of the protection measures in the country, the Legislative Council decided last night that Tuesday would be a pay holiday for employees in the public and private sectors, with the exception of workers in public and private health services, security or national emergencies, and the private sector. Employees who can work remotely.

Meanwhile, the Salvadoran Red Cross, Civil Protection and Armed Forces are actively involved in evacuations of families at risk of floods and landslides in the west and east of the country due to the accumulation of rain over the weekend.

The rain has stopped in some areas, such as the San Salvador metropolitan area and some areas of Aguilares, although clouds remain, but the Ministry of Environment reported continued rainfall in San Miguel and the eastern coastal region.

Heavy rains have killed at least 11 people and displaced more than 900 others since June 10. Meanwhile, authorities reported several traffic accidents, including one on Venezuela Street in the capital, which left a motorcyclist dead and another person injured when they were hit by a transport bus this morning.
