DETROIT – Victor Reyes penetrated deep into the field in the 10th inning, driving auto sprinter Ryan Criddler from third base and giving the Detroit Tigers a 3-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Friday.
The White Sox fell four games behind the Cleveland Guardians of leaders AL Central.
Tigers assistant Alex Lange (5-4) hit all three hits he faced in the 10th inning and Willy Castro led the bottom inning with a header. Liam Hendrix (3-4) took the ball and watched Criddler run to third.
Then he threw poorly to the first, leaving the runners in the corners.
It was the second mistake in Hendrix’s 12-year career.
Hit Riley Greene before Reyes came to the plate and hit the sacrificial fly at the end of the game with a quick 1-2. Adam Engel made a quick catch, but no longer had a chance to take Kreidler out with his shot.
For the White Sox, Venezuelan Elvis Andros scored 5-3 in one inning. Cuba’s Jose Abreu 4-1 with two RBIs and Yasmane Grandal 4-0. Dominican Eloy Jimenez 4-1.
For the Tigers, Puerto Rico Javier Paez scored 3-3 in one inning and Wali Castro 1-0. Venezuela’s Victor Reyes 4-0 with RBI.
