Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Kremlin said Sunday that while the West is reacting “hysterically” to Russia’s plans to build nuclear weapons storage facilities in neighboring Belarus, it is forgetting about the presence of US nuclear weapons in Europe.

“The collective West is not inclined to remember the issue of American nuclear weapons, which are here in Europe, about our country, but in this case they are inclined to hysterically react to our plans to build nuclear weapons storage facilities. Peskov said in an interview with the Russian TV channel Rossiya-1 “.

The official further commented on talks between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko at a meeting in Moscow on Thursday, noting that nuclear weapons are currently a major issue.

“Well, yes, this is a very important topic now. We see a very rampant reaction from the collective West to President Putin’s statements,” Peskov said.

Putin announced on March 25 that Russia would complete construction of a special storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, drawing strong international criticism.

Moscow will start training the teams in early April, Putin said, adding that Russia will complete construction of a tactical nuclear weapons storage facility in Belarus by July 1, and control of the weapons will not be transferred to Minsk.
