Security Measures Before Spring Break – NBC Miami (51)

Must Read

Thousands of tourists have already begun arriving in South Florida, especially to the beaches of Fort Lauderdale and Miami Beach.

Alex Fernandez, Miami Beach Commissioner says:

“Lots of tourism, lots of activity. 81 percent of our hotels are occupied the first weekend of Spring Break.”

To prevent such unrest, on the beaches, restrictions regarding alcohol and drugs have already begun.

The authorities stated that their aim was for “everyone to return home the same way they got here”.

Which is why, from Friday through April 2, alcoholic beverages, refrigerators, tents, loud music, electric skateboards, and unauthorized vendors will be banned.

“In addition to alcohol control measures, there will also be drug control fangs in place to prevent the use of psychoactive substances on the beach,” asserts Bill Schultz, of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department.

35 miles south, in Miami Beach, action has been taken, too.

Over the next four weeks, Miami Beach will host dozens of events related to sports, music, arts, and celebrations for the LGBTIQ+ community.
