San Juan (Argentina) (AFP) – American Quinn Simmons (Trek Segafredo) surprised, on Tuesday, by winning the third stage of the San Juan Tour, which Irishman Sam Bennett (Bora Hansgrohe) continues to lead.

Simmons, 21, won the 170.9km course, starting and finishing at the San Juan Felicum Raceway with a time of 3 hours, 49 minutes, 29 seconds, and he cruised through a breakaway in the final chm and avoided the attack of the platoon.

The podium was completed by Argentine Maximiliano Ricci and Sam Bennett, who had led the general classification since the first stage.

The fourth day will be held, on Wednesday, starting from the San Juan Felicum Circuit and ending with the Parial Square, with a total length of 196.5 kilometers.

And again, as in previous days, the race took place in the sweltering heat of a San Juan afternoon with temperatures approaching 40 degrees.

With approximately 45 kilometers to go, Nahuel Mendes, Jose Luis Rodriguez and Luca Dondik attempted a breakaway that was caught by the peloton 28 km from the finish line.

At the entrance to the racecourse, the one who tried to escape was the Italian Simone Bevilacqua (Eolo Kometa), but he could not advance and was overtaken less than three kilometers from the finish line. Before the attacks could be grouped for a sprint, Simons soloed into the final kilometre.

After his success, Simmons said, “Yesterday we watched several videos and saw that attack could be attempted, and understood there was a possibility. There was great work from my teammates.”
