Instant translation: Connect with people, places and cultures at any time and in any language
To make the reservation, the Samsung Korean newsroom editor first pressed the instant translation button on her Galaxy S24 Ultra and then dialed the number. When he called an employee at the restaurant, an automated message came back saying, “Hello.” This call is translated and translated simultaneously.
“Hello, how can I help you?” The restaurant manager answered on the other end of the line. The newsroom editor responded in Korean: “Hi! “I would like to make a reservation for this Thursday at 1:30 PM.” After pausing to listen to the translation, the restaurant manager asked the total number of people. The editor continued in Korean: “Six. “Can I reserve a window seat?” The instant translation feature seamlessly conveys this message to the restaurant employee in English.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra's instant translation feature supports up to 13 languages out of the box, and provides translations for on-screen voice and text conversations. It remembers the language used by each person called, and automatically configures it for future calls. Plus, it works flawlessly on all types of phones, even landlines. When the Korean editor tried it for the first time, she was surprised by the immediate disappearance of the language barrier.
On the day of the reservation, the Samsung Newsroom visited the restaurant to sit down with its CEO, Driana Cardarelli, and ask her opinion on the Galaxy S24 Ultra’s instant translation.
“I think this is great for the service industry, especially for non-English speaking customers,” says Drianna. “I believe this will help many customers feel more comfortable contacting the restaurant with questions rather than contacting us via email or our online reservation platform.”
She saw interpretation as a valuable tool in situations where a phone call is easier than using an online platform, whether to plan an event or inquire about job opportunities. “Sometimes we have a lot of Spanish-speaking customers,” Driana explains. “It would be great if they could avoid asking to speak to someone who speaks Spanish. This way they avoid any problem: language barriers disappear.”
Instant translation is one of the Galaxy S24 Ultra's many on-device AI features, keeping phone calls private and secure. In addition, the on-device AI handles calls quickly, even compared to the online version.
