The final day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in high jump had an interesting episode. The situation came after America’s Shelby McEwen refused to share the gold with New Zealander Hamish Kerr. The debate ended with victory for New Zealand.

The gold medal was won only in the third jumping round after both athletes cleared 2m36. Both tried to win the 2m38 mark but failed. The fight ended after Kerr jumped at 2:34 and McEwen missed on his first attempt.

Tokyo 2020 had a similar episode, but the outcome was different. On that occasion, Italy’s Gianmarco Tamberi and Qatar’s Mutas Essa Barshim agreed to share the gold together in the final with a jump of 2m 39m.

In this episode both the athletes participated in the current competition. Qatar won the bronze, while the Italian overcame health issues to make it to the final. In the end he failed his three attempts with 2m27 and finished the race in eleventh place.
