Buenos Aires-. President Alberto Fernandez confirmed today that the accursed debt contracted by former President Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) with the International Monetary Fund represents an impressive weight for the Argentine economy.
Speaking to Radio 10, the head of state denounced the effects of the pledge made by his predecessor with that organization worth more than $56 billion, the largest amount approved in the history of the International Monetary Fund and this country.
He pointed out that the burden represented by this debt is added to the consequences of the drought, a phenomenon that caused a loss of 20 million dollars and further complicated the situation.
But he confirmed that Economy Minister Sergio Massa and a team of specialists are continuing negotiations with the International Monetary Fund.
On the other hand, he criticized members of the opposition who “bet that the situation will get worse and a catastrophe will occur.”
He said that there is a sector of Argentine politics that is concerned with the interests of some and not with the fate of the country.
“The right wants to take away the rights of workers and retirees. They want to think again about the meaning of a privatized state and not with a present state. We must beware of the risks we face,” he added.
