TORONTO — Whit Merrifield hit a single in the 13th inning, and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox 4-3 on Saturday.
Merrifield’s single from Mauricio Lovera (1-3) drove in Vladimir Guerrero Jr. from third base.
Chad Green (3-0) pitched one inning for the win.
Dominican Guerrero hit a home run and reached base five times for Toronto, which made sure they didn’t lose ground in the battle for Wild Card tickets to the American League postseason. The Blue Jays started the day a half-game behind Seattle, which finished third and last.
Guerrero went 2-for-3 with three walks, one intentional.
Dominican Rafael Devers hit a two-run home run for his 32nd home run. But Boston lost for the ninth time in 11 games.
For the Red Sox, Venezuelan Wilier Abreu went 1-for-2 with one run scored. Dominican Rafael Devers is 1-4 with one run scored and two RBIs, Pablo Reyes is 1-1 with an RBI. Mexican Alex Verdugo 0-5 with one goal. Mexican Luis Urias 3-0.
For the Blue Jays, Dominican Guerrero won 3-2 with two runs scored and one RBI, Santiago Espinal 5-1. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 4-1
