Guatemala's Constitutional Court suspends the merger of the Congress's governing body
Representative Nery Abilio, of the Blue Party, was elected President, and Darwin Alberto Lucas, of the UNE Party, was elected First Vice President. Among the group that makes up the new board are representatives of the Viva, Cabal, VOS, Bien, Victoria and National List parties, leaving the ruling Semilla party outside the board.
On Wednesday, Guatemala's Constitutional Court issued a ruling suspending the merger of the Congress's Board of Directors.
The country's highest court decided to grant temporary protection requested by an organization demanding the invalidation of the election of a president of Congress to Representative Samuel Perez, who belongs to the ruling party, the Simela Movement, on the grounds of illegality, which the legislator rejected.
President Bernardo Arevalo, in an interview with Conclusions, from CNN en Español, said they would abide by the court ruling to elect a new board of directors.
