The Health on Wheels Approach implemented – Diario de Centro America

Through the mobile brigades in the priority areas of Alta Verapaz, the Health on Wheels strategy has been developed, which has strengthened primary prevention and vaccination services and made them even more close.

According to him Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS)During three months, 22,960 doses of various injections were administered, including those for Covid-19.

Details show that from July 1st to October 31st, 14,102 regular regimens were applied to children from 0 to 5 years old, 347 against human papillomavirus (HPV) and 8511 in the prevention of COVID-19. The Holistic Health Corps also did growth monitoring, micronutrient supplementation, prenatal nutrition assessment, family planning methods, and general counseling.

188 communities have been prioritized in implementing the strategy.

Regarding issues of nutrition, reproductive health and deworming, the portfolio reported that 3,117 children under the age of five were provided with nutritional supplements, while 12,575 children were checked for weight and height, and 2,790 pregnant women were cared for.

The strategy included talks, educational sessions, recreational activities, information booths in the markets, advice and more.

According to the ministry, the field procedures were responsible for the concerned health fields and had technical and financial support from Pan American Health Organization (OPS) and the Observatory for Sexual and Reproductive Health.
