The German multinational automaker has announced the reorganization of its production network in Europe based on its electric mobility strategy, confirming that from 2025 it will start manufacturing a new purely electric truck at its plant in Vitoria.
This car joins the rest of the models produced at the factory in Vitoria, such as the V-Class, EQV, (e) Vito and (e) Vito Tourer.
In practical terms, this announcement opens the way to finalize the $1,264 million investment announced by the multinational, but not yet detailed.
Last September, the Mercedes-Benz division demonstrated its intention to fully adapt the European production network of electric vehicles based on the Van.Ea platform, as they called it.
In fact, the Spanish government has allocated 179 million US dollars for the Vitória plant within the electric vehicle segment.
In the statement, the multinational also refers to the commitment reflected in the collective agreement, agreed upon in July after tense negotiations, through which the “path of transformation” is being initiated.
The German group’s electric mobility plan places two German truck manufacturers ahead of the Olava plant. Specifically, the Düsseldorf and Ludwigsfelde plants will produce electric vehicles on the basis of Van.Ea in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
Confirmation of new plans for the alpha plant coincides with a change in management. Emilio Titus, who has been in charge of the factory for 14 years, is retiring on January 1st. From April, he will be replaced by Bernd Krotmayer, who will meet precisely tomorrow with the members of the works council for the first contact with the new challenges of the company in Euskadi.
One day after unions and new management meet, the Vittoria plant will stop production on December 14, and will stop until January 2.
Short supply of some components directly affected production, which is why there is a volume of vehicles that cannot be delivered because they are not fully finished.
