(CNN) – A New Zealand family got a vision Bird Unexpectedly, a naughty parrot stole their GoPro and ran down the path they were walking on in the Fieldland National Park on the South Island.
The Verhoul family from Dunedin in the southeast of the country, the Kee race from New Zealand, ended up exploring part of the Kepler trail when they caught their GoPro and flew over the woods.
They directed the device to film a group of interested birds that joined them outside the room where they were staying, Alex Verhoul said in an interview with broadcaster Seven Sharp on Thursday.
But a cheeky kea flew in with the camera, capturing aerial images of the landscape before landing on a piece of land, striking the device again and again with its beak.
At one point, the bird can be seen tearing a piece of plastic from the camera casing.
Surprisingly, the GoPro escaped its ordeal: a family member heard the scream and ran in the direction of the noise to retrieve it.
Conveniently, the bird flew in a straight line to the Verhole Seven Sharp so they could keep track of it.
“We followed the noise and went downstairs and we saw them hanging in the tree. They obviously heard us coming. They pushed the GoPro over and my son decided to go check the rocks … it was there., Lay there, still shooting.” .
“I downloaded (pictures) on my phone … was amazing. It was completely unexpected.”
The next day, a key also stole a mug from a bag.
CNN approached Verheul for further feedback.
