Croatian President Zoran Milanovic is on an official visit to Chile to celebrate the start of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
On the 30th anniversary of Chile’s recognition of Croatia’s independence, Zoran Milanovic held a meeting at La Moneda Palace with President Gabriel Boric.
Milanović is visiting Chile to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Chile’s recognition of Croatia’s independence, and the subsequent establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Highlighting the important bonds of friendship that unite our country, the Croatian President did not fail to mention President Boric’s Croatian origins.
“I am visiting Gabriel Boric, first as President of Chile, but also as a descendant of Croats. Chile was one of the first countries to recognize Croatia 30 years ago, and I remember very well that it behaved correctly towards our country.”Milanovic said.
“Chile, from our European perspective, because of the way it operates, because of its traditions, and especially during the last 30 years, is a European-minded country. I want to thank you for that lovely welcome and I hope we will continue these meetings and talks. I am happy to be able to visit Punta Arenas, It is the city where President Borek was born.” The Croatian president indicated.
For his part, President Gabriel Borik admitted that “These three decades were marked by flexible dialogue, bilateral and multilateral, in which Chileans and Croats deepened our relations and strengthened our closeness. Today we have agreements in areas as diverse as culture, scientific research, investment promotion and protection, double taxation, and tourism, and we continue to explore new areas in a world characterized by permanent change “.
“The ethnic Croatian community that today borders on 300,000 people in our country, including immigrants and their descendants, makes it the second largest community in South America. It is a thriving community that is distinguished in all fields and contributes to the future of our country,” added.
On this occasion, President Borik presented Zoran Milanović with the highest decoration that the government bestows on a foreigner, the Order of Bernardo O’Higgins of the Rank of Collar, in recognition of his contribution to expanding and enriching the bilateral relationship.
It should be noted that Milanovic will continue his schedule tomorrow by visiting the city of Punta Arenas, where the largest Croatian community in our country is located.
