At the opening of the ninth summit of the heads of state and government of the organization, the president acknowledged the deep relations that unite the countries of the region and the work that has been carried out together in various projects and agreements.
In this iconic city, a World Cultural Heritage Site, Giamatti expressed his confidence that the presence of more than 60 delegations would enhance collaboration, in areas of mutual interest, for the benefit of the American Academy of Sports Medicine.
He thanked the attendees for responding to the invitation to participate in this summit and for their presence in the various activities prepared for all.
With their effort and dedication, we have closed a new cycle of meetings of vital importance to give continuity, in the best possible way, to the agenda of the Assembly, the host personality emphasized.
He added that in the same way, we are ending the practice of our presidency of the Council of Ministers in which we hope to adhere to the motto of innovation and integration through sustainable development of the greater Caribbean region.
He noted that with the agenda before us, we seek to promote a fruitful and frank exchange on the challenges that the Academy faces in the current context.
Likewise, we would like to review the steps taken during Guatemala’s presidency.
Giamatti stressed that the important agreements that we will adopt and that will be reflected in the Antigua Guatemala Declaration will guide the institutional agenda of our association.
The current Heads of State and Government and other designated personalities of the Member States will analyze the agreements reached the day before during the 28th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers, the regional agenda and the alliances to be signed in the future.
The meeting will conclude with an agreed final declaration and clear objectives in terms of multidimensional cooperation, green and blue agendas, financial reinvigoration, investments and migration approaches from a development perspective.
Founded in 1994 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, the ACS is made up of 31 countries in the Caribbean and seeks to create a space for joint economic discussion.
