It seems there are no limits to this Argentina playing seven Santiago Gomez Cora. Beyond reaching the goal of qualifying for the third consecutive Olympic Games, the national team is looking for a new gold medal: the semi-finals of the World Tour Arena in Toulouse, Pumas Seven defeated Canada 33-5 and will play New Zealand in the title qualifier..
Background with Canadians
After losing their first match against New Zealand, Argentina had a tough commitment to get to this stage with Canada having already exited Uruguay, Kenya and Australia. 2022/23 Hong Kong Circuit 2022/23 won 17-7 with 44 wins and 20 losses and one last win. After qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the all-conquering team achieved an undefeated group by beating Germany, Spain, Great Britain, and including a win over South Africa in the quarter-finals. That is why now nothing seems possible and they are looking for a new final.
Thus, they entered the field: German Schultz, Luciano Gonzalez, Agustin Fraga, Gaston Reval (captain), Marcos Moneta, Rodrigo Isgro and Santiago Vera Feld. The relay bench consisted of Santiago Alvarez, Mateo Graziano, Tomás Elizalte, Tobias Wade and Joaquin Bellandini.
A monologue by Las Pumas Seven in a terrific first half
The opening left for Canada and Argentina put the ball. The Argentinian field was stressful. Iscro first and Vera Feld later fined the Canadian brand. Isgro sent the ball to the line and Las Pumas went there in search of the first try. The game didn’t end well as Isgro fed the ball to Moneta on the right, but Canada were cleared after 1.30′ of play when the Argentinian try man knocked on.
After a good catch by German Schultz and a fanning by Rodrigo Isgrove, the first Argentina win came at 5 to 0.
The national drive was revolved and with the Canadian offense to get the ball back. After the scrum again the Isgró-Moneta formula worked well throughout the match to secure a second win. This time Argentina were 12-0 as Santiago Vera Felde’s kick was good.
It was Agustin Fraga who picked up the ball after Isgrove’s pass, and with a quick run, Fraga supported Canada’s goal as he surprised him. Vera Feld’s goal made it 19-0 to Argentina, who were looking to find more and reach a new final.
Before the end of the first half, Bulldozer Isgro from Mendoza, after a recovered ball and a spike, scored a straight try and a new smile, leaving the result 26-0. This time Luciano Gonzalez. This is how they defined the game and went to rest with the final as a new objective.
Second half for necessary spare parts and finals
The second half continued with the ball in Argentina’s hands, and when the ball was in Gomez Cora’s possession, it was clear things were working out. Unhurried, more calm and patient, the national team tackled the ball without losing a foot in the final.
Cycles that began to come with variations, income of all substitutes observed starters, reached the definition of gold fresher.
Argentina continued in similar fashion, with the substitutes playing the same way and executing the script perfectly, keeping the ball and killing time.
Now Canada will be playing Argentina for the first time, but Argentina’s defense at the rucks did a good job recovering the ball.
However, suffered by a wide score against Canada, at least went for the waiver to decorate the final result. Canada got its first win with a yellow for Tobias Wade and Kalin Shekhar for a foul. With less than two minutes to go and the score 26 to 5, Las Pumas knew they were the winners. They had to handle the ball and run the clock to get gold in Toulouse.
But before the final whistle, Los Metreros man Mateo Graziano came in from the left wing to secure a fifth Argentina win and his second individual win of the tournament. Gaston Revol added two more points and left the plate 5 for 33 in favor of Argentina.
The final kicks off at 12:56pm and in the meantime we continue to enjoy this unique gift to Argentine rugby from Gomez Cora’s team.
