DENVER — Kris Bryant homered for the second straight game, one of four home runs for Colorado, and the Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 7-3 on Wednesday for their first win in a month.
Nolan Jones and Elihoris Montero each hit two home runs in the fifth inning. Ryan McMahon hit a home run and finished with three hits for the Rockies, who have hit two in three games against the Cubs, who are fighting for a playoff spot.
Colorado has not won a Series since going two of three games against the Chicago White Sox from August 18-20.
Nico Horner equaled his career best mark with four strikes. Panamanian Miguel Amaya and Ian Happ each had a pair of hits for Chicago, which dropped its last two games in Colorado to make room for Milwaukee, the Central leader.
The Cubs (78-69) still control second place in the National League.
Ty Blach (3-1) allowed nine hits in five innings, but held the Cubs to three runs.
Chicago outfielder James Taillon (7-10) went 2-0 with a 1.29 ERA in his appearances against Placid, including a complete game on Aug. 7, 2018 at Coors Field, when he was with Pittsburg.
For the Cubs, Dominican Christopher Morrell was 1-for-4, with one run scored. Panamanian Miguel Amaya 3-2. Brazilian Yan Gomez 1-0.
For the Rockies, Venezuelan Ezequiel Tovar went 2-for-4, with an RBI. Dominican Elihoris Montero is 1-for-4, with one run scored and two RBIs.
