The Directorate General of Public Health and Participation held this afternoon in Can Campanier the third talk on the course “Public health for our future”. The meeting was attended by 69 participants in the room and 47 participants online, including health professionals and patient associations and entities.
The Minister of Health and Consumption, Patricia Gomez, opened the session, stating that “we were able to validate the importance of public health not only in the treatment of infectious diseases, but also in the epidemiological surveillance services that have been put in place to ensure the safety of citizens.
Then, the first part of the talk dedicated to participation began, in which Elena Tejera, Regional Coordinator for Addiction Patients of the Directorate General of Public Health, and Rafael Covinho, Public Health Technician of the Government of the Principality of Asturias, intervened. At the end of both exhibitions, a symposium was held.
Joining the discussion were Ana Belén Velasco, Director of the Spanish Association for Cancer Control of the Balearic Islands, and Fan Ji, President of the Chinese Association of the Balearic Islands. The moderator of the discussion, Celia Personnat Labrador, a public health technician, commented that participation in public health requires the intervention and contribution of entities, professionals and institutions.
The expert said that the importance of these entities concerned with public health as a way of understanding that the health of the population goes beyond the health field and that any government policy must include this perspective to ensure the prosperity of the population.
In the second part, presentations and discussions revolved around coordination between departments. The moderator, Ramón García-Janner, Head of the Zoonoses Office in the Environmental Health Department of the General Directorate of Public Health and Participation, emphasized that coordination is a key focus in public health management.
Nacho García, General Manager of Benefits and Pharmacy, began by explaining the main aspects and the experience gained during the management of the pandemic between the various health and non-health entities and institutions. Later, Xavier Mesquida, President of Médecins du Monde, explained the coordination that is being carried out by an NGO in the field of international cooperation.
In conclusion, Victor Rodriguez, trainer for organizations, provided some resources for improving coordination in the field of public health. The next talk will be on March 9 and will feature the remote presence of Maria Neira, Director of the Department of Public Health and Environment at the World Health Organization, who will explain new challenges in public health.
In addition, it will be in the presence of Fernando Simon, Director of the Center for Health Alerts and Emergency Coordination, who will explain the challenge of monitoring public health. Finally, Maria Antonia Font, Director of Public Health and Participation of the Conselleria de Salut i Consum will present the conclusions of the talks cycle.
