On Monday, June 10, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed his “deep regret” and condemnation of the killing of Palestinian civilians in the bloody Israeli attack on the Nuseirat refugee camp to “liberate” four prisoners.
UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters during a press conference, “The Secretary-General expresses his deep regret and condemnation of the killing of hundreds of Palestinian civilians and the injury of hundreds of others in the context of the operation.”
Citing information obtained from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on the ground, Dujarric noted that hospitals in the area were overwhelmed after the Israeli operation.
Dujarric reiterated his call on all parties to protect civilians, and said that every loss of life is tragic.
In response to a question from Anadolu Agency about reports of Israeli soldiers entering the camp with aid trucks during the operation, Dujarric confirmed that they did not have specific information about these reports.
However, he stressed that the independence of humanitarian operations and workers around the world must be respected.
