The foundation’s undersecretary for economic and social affairs, Lee Junhwa, declared that all conclusions and recommendations emerging from the analyzes should indeed be part of the government’s efforts in this area.

You can’t waste time. Communication differences should diminish. A free and inclusive digital future must be guaranteed from now on,” Junhwa commented via a video sent to the final session of the forum.

He stressed that it is necessary to address the challenges related to Internet governance in a more concerted manner, with the aim of promoting the meaningful participation of all social actors and protecting their rights.

After five days of discussions, the meeting concluded on Friday evening and was described as a success by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, Demeke Mekonnen.

During the concluding speech, Mekonnen recommended planning global and regional programs to promote the open, secure, multi-directional and responsible use of the Internet and information and communication technologies, with priority given to the least developed countries.

He also thanked the selection of Addis Ababa to host the secret meeting, and emphasized that the federal government is preparing to develop the digital economy, as part of the ongoing reforms in the region.

According to his opinion, governments and telecommunications companies should apply technological and digital processes to promote rapid and appropriate growth in the most underdeveloped countries and thus improve the quality of life of their population.

Organized by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa and the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation, the meeting was held under the theme “Resilient Internet for a Shared, Sustainable and Shared Future”.
